A Good Day At The Fair

It was good that I finished the  Exploding Star last night, because I was able to put it in our county fair today and guess what ...

It got a blue ribbon AND Reserve Champion in the quilt class!  I was shocked.

But I was even more pleased by this

My Dutch Treat got a blue ribbon and Grand Champion in the quilt class.  I'm really, really happy about that.  This is the first time I've had a chance to enter it any where.

I had 14 entries all together today.  All but one got a ribbon. We were in Colorado last year and I wasn't able to enter the fair so I had quite a few of last year's quilts to put in.

Amish Dahlia didn't get one this time.

Not too sad though because...

Flowers for Mary (left) got a blue ribbon in the Cotton Patchwork group and Mack The Knife (aka Fractured Star) got a blue ribbon in the Machine Quilted group and also received the special award for Best Machine Quilting that our guild sponsors.  This is the third year I've been honored to win it.

My Double Wedding Ring table topper received a blue ribbon in the Miscellaneous Quilted Item group.

Imperial Gardens (Stack 'n Whack) got a blue ribbon in the Fancy Patchwork group

One of my silk flower and tulle wall hangings got a blue ribbon in the
Small Wall hanging group

And the second place ribbon in that group went to
one of my Mariner's Compass wall hangings.  Sorry for the blurry picture. I think I was a bit giddy by this point.

I also entered some crocheted items

Both took third place white ribbons (one was in the group under 14" and the other over 14")

This crocheted vest got a blue ribbon

And this crocheted Farmer Rabbit seemed really at home going to the fair

He got a blue ribbon too. Tom likes to pose him with a bottle of beer between those thumbs.

Last of all was one of my cloth dolls.  This one I call Hog Wash

She got not only a blue ribbon but also Reserve Champion in the Doll Class.

Here's a better picture of her with her wash tub showing.  I made the cloth doll and her clothes and accessories.

Not a bad day at all.  I really wanted to make some cinnamon rolls to enter but I was too lazy last night to stir them up to raise overnight. Maybe next year (I tell myself this every year and it still hasn't happened.)

After we took the entries over this morning I spent the afternoon quilting one of the little tops I made in May or June.  I'll post pictures of it tomorrow when I finish the binding..it's half done tonight.

Congratulations Mary this is so exciting.
I have a question what is a Reserve Champion and a Grand Champion. Are your feet touching the ground yet.

Wonderful quilts and crafts. I totally love your Exploding Star. Is that an Iowa Star pattern? I know Cynthia does wonderful scrap quilts.

Mary, I did not mean for my comments about quilts and crafts to be THAT anonymous!!! I am interested in where you obtained the pattern. Thanks.
