I still haven't settled on a name for it.<br />
<br />
It may be the last big quilt I try to quilt myself on my Juki. Handling a quilt this size has just become too difficult for me. All that moving around of the arms is hard when you have breathing problems like I do. Because of all the seams it is a very heavy quilt. I used a wool batting so that helped a little, but it is still very heavy.<br />
<br />
I wish I had better pictures. <br />

<br />
I really didn't work on this at all last year. At least half of it was completed after July of this year, so it's more like a year's worth of work. I will enjoy looking at all the different fabrics that range from vintage pieces from the 1950's through all the quilts I've made. <br />
<br />
Wishing you Happy Quilting in the New Year!<br />

I didn't work steadily on it so it took awhile. I have to say these aren't my favorite flowers of all I've ever appliquéd. Rather strange, at least the many petaled ones. Maybe the designer wasn't a gardener. I've never seen flowers quite like these. <br />
<br />
I've developed some carpal tunnel problems, especially in my left hand, so I'm not sure how much more I'll be working on this for awhile at least.<br />

I spent Christmas feeling ill so our plans to join family were cancelled. Luckily we have a second gathering planned for tomorrow and I'm hoping to feel up to that. <br />

Lots of grapes in block four. I have Karen Buckley's Perfect Circles, but I decided to just sew these without gathering them. They aren't perfect, but real grapes aren't either and this was a quicker way to go, eliminating the gathering step, and not all that difficult. I'm putting my block in upside down. I just didn't like the bird swooping in from the top and looking backwards. <br />

I debated how to dress my bride and decided to make her pretty plain. Sort of like me. I've never been very snappy or classy. Just a Plain Jane and so my bride is a rather Plain Mary. I like that she is surrounded by flowers as I've always loved growing and tending to them both indoors and out. I added a tiny bit of embroidery to my flowers to make them a little more interesting. <br />

Winner is The Civil War Bride Quilt, based on the Bird of Paradise Quilt in the American Folkart Museum in New York City. <br />

It will be another slow project, but these days I have nothing but time and I'm fortunate to be able to spend as much as I want of it on quilting and piecing. I'm particularly fond of appliqué so I know I will enjoy this journey. </div>

The first block is finished.</div>

As of last night two of the four borders are complete (unless I decide to add another design element). I'm hoping to have this at least finished by year end. Any bets?<br />

<br />
It's hard to believe I've let almost an entire year go by without posting. It's been a rewarding year emotionally, a challenging year health wise and what has felt like a mostly non-productive year quilting wise.<br />
<br />
One of the highlights of this year was traveling half way across the country to meet four half siblings that I only learned about a year ago. I can't begin to describe the enormity of this event for me at age 68. My life is forever changed .<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
A month later we traveled almost as far to celebrate an astounding achievement for my oldest son, being inducted into the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Hall of Fame. We were so happy to be able to share that special week with him and his wife. <br />

<br />
Both trips were so important and I wouldn't have considered missing out on either of them, but they took a toll on my health and I'm not sure I've recovered yet. <br />
<br />
On the quilting front I've only finished ONE quilt. Yep, ONE. Unheard of for me, right? This string quilt, lap size, was made last February for a dear friend who is currently battling lung cancer for the third time. Her courage and determination are an inspiration to me.<br />

<br />
I also made a little table runner for a new coat rack purchased by oldest son and his wife. They wanted it to coordinate with a print hanging nearby on the wall. I think it managed to do that pretty well considering I was going by an emailed photo.<br />
<br />
<br />
Here I am comparing it with their photo on my computer monitor<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCTv-L3Ki_S6xOdCKwdjwU7WGIR8Z-FFv_bRUz9a8GC5Jy8_Pi08SvpvvzHNgVHdU9mgpYgc5ddUgYkjO027XS1_FeXLCg1-kn9nXTO2LYrelNbUP-jDn4yFpNKm5nAgppsa0W8dLwhV2R/s1600/2Paris+Runner+7.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCTv-L3Ki_S6xOdCKwdjwU7WGIR8Z-FFv_bRUz9a8GC5Jy8_Pi08SvpvvzHNgVHdU9mgpYgc5ddUgYkjO027XS1_FeXLCg1-kn9nXTO2LYrelNbUP-jDn4yFpNKm5nAgppsa0W8dLwhV2R/s1600/2Paris+Runner+7.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
I spent a few days cutting out and piecing half blocks for a Stack 'n Whack or One Block Wonder Quilt. (I'm not sure which it will end up being )<br />
<br />
This is the original fabric<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS0eyBpgF21XXDP75C92SucL_uMFoSVOv2T9VS7f7tvpgFzYGOCgQLa9aQ6BLClpSPPRU7Rnm6Gt3O_UypeW-YfxYRfsPsL0azt909ITcQ0rT6fCqBpqBSSBFBKKdz33xIz3aLTdc7uLJ3/s1600/102_1556.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS0eyBpgF21XXDP75C92SucL_uMFoSVOv2T9VS7f7tvpgFzYGOCgQLa9aQ6BLClpSPPRU7Rnm6Gt3O_UypeW-YfxYRfsPsL0azt909ITcQ0rT6fCqBpqBSSBFBKKdz33xIz3aLTdc7uLJ3/s1600/102_1556.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And some of the half blocks. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Stack 'n Whack variation would have coordiating triangles where the carpeting shows through in this picture.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj843r85JC2RahifferTqOYpBR8c9G_4XcYF23Ca_c_R4nhFxxX5ZGqA_GNNW1kj9OVNaYAolPm7F8Go6_aNSX6pd7Wg5t_qGmYqvBakDfrMkRP1Oy5SvKbNYpFSd0K93Re7s2KCo_QDdlH/s1600/IMG_1342.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj843r85JC2RahifferTqOYpBR8c9G_4XcYF23Ca_c_R4nhFxxX5ZGqA_GNNW1kj9OVNaYAolPm7F8Go6_aNSX6pd7Wg5t_qGmYqvBakDfrMkRP1Oy5SvKbNYpFSd0K93Re7s2KCo_QDdlH/s1600/IMG_1342.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The One Block Wonder version would have them set block to block like this</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjugAQ11wTquSPcWidFcIiCBF1vwIXPZ2bcgTjb5RaBtmqXSBCxHnRrbOrDlf2hkAthFqtTAlO9-g63Rd5Ycm6rkkZ10a61Zzk-RZ14TK3upjhN0S0IjsKXydqwZ5CPMZLK2k2Q1RhLWLl6/s1600/IMG_1318.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjugAQ11wTquSPcWidFcIiCBF1vwIXPZ2bcgTjb5RaBtmqXSBCxHnRrbOrDlf2hkAthFqtTAlO9-g63Rd5Ycm6rkkZ10a61Zzk-RZ14TK3upjhN0S0IjsKXydqwZ5CPMZLK2k2Q1RhLWLl6/s1600/IMG_1318.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
One of these days I'll get back to working on it. In either case I only sew half of the blocks together initially. Then I can sew rows of blocks together and avoid set in seams. <br />
<br />
By mid summer I returned to a hand project, working on my hexie quilt that I started in 2012 using English paper piecing and 3/4" hexagrams.<br />
<br />
I took the center to this point and added plain cream borders :<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWnMibQv5bTTTvPLKw1cPJdIzURvHIBDTJjB0OH39xCUzQ8LxinVSOpiacy8Umd5AZvh2qY0ur4cvEbigUJ7tXzK5tXpZbZ2BFYe6yniEtwCYEoYvedVpCErIdN_snhMRFSMEpH5hMDbdu/s1600/IMG_1654.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWnMibQv5bTTTvPLKw1cPJdIzURvHIBDTJjB0OH39xCUzQ8LxinVSOpiacy8Umd5AZvh2qY0ur4cvEbigUJ7tXzK5tXpZbZ2BFYe6yniEtwCYEoYvedVpCErIdN_snhMRFSMEpH5hMDbdu/s1600/IMG_1654.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Now I am adding appliquéd hexie flowers made with 1/2" hexagons (3/4" in the corners) and rick rack for the vine. This won't be a quick project either, but maybe one day I will actually finish this quilt. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTHL-OATmnonkk9_zvijnVIBVJ1K5Zt7sgxUH0bx8iD9vtKZRG8PM11Mzqhkq6QCaFHKC6f0-1mjTdLsFH6WHiRpRYBuBOG0YrHy0hAyTZZ1m7L6u9OgztRmGvbo4JCX5GjYSC1cnYvYiY/s1600/IMG_1667.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTHL-OATmnonkk9_zvijnVIBVJ1K5Zt7sgxUH0bx8iD9vtKZRG8PM11Mzqhkq6QCaFHKC6f0-1mjTdLsFH6WHiRpRYBuBOG0YrHy0hAyTZZ1m7L6u9OgztRmGvbo4JCX5GjYSC1cnYvYiY/s1600/IMG_1667.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
That brings us up to date. Perhaps next year both my quilting and blogging mojo will return. Until then, Happy Quilting my friends.<br />

I set my goal of making a quilt for each of my sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to be given at Christmas. 12 quilts in all and there were certainly times I didn't think it was going to happen. I used one quilt that was made in 2011 and made the other 11. Because my sons live in there different states and quite a distance apart, we only manage to get all of them home for Christmas every two years these days. That happened this past weekend and the quilts were well received. <br />
<br />
So, since I have nothing new to show, here are some pics of the quilt distribution and the recipients. <br />
<br />

<br />
I hope Miss Aly liked her quilt better than it appears in this picture. <br />

What an understatement, huh? <br />
<br />
The goal of 12 quilts for family Christmas presents has been met. In total honesty one of them was already made in a previous year. So, 11 quilts have been made and quilted and bound. <br />
<br />
Another personal goal has been met and exceeded. At the age of 67 I was stunned last month to discover 4 half siblings that I did not know existed. I grew up knowing next to nothing about my father and presumed I never would. I can't overstate what a huge blessing it has been and continues to be to have found 2 sisters and 2 brothers and to be so warmly embraced by them. I was saddened to learn of my father's passing 3 years ago, but have to believe that God brought us to this point at this time for a reason. All of my "new" siblings live on the west coast, so we are planning a trip after the first of the year. In the meantime, technology is a wonderful thing and we communicate often. <br />
<br />
This year all three sons and most of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be with us the weekend after Christmas and some for several days. On Thanksgiving Day a new generation (3 great-grands) helped set up and decorate the Christmas tree. <br />
<br />
We are blessed in so many ways and hope that you are too.<br />
<br />
<br />
The Christmas quilts in order of completion. This year I had to send some quilts out to be quilted as my breathing and stamina just aren't letting me manipulate the larger quilts through my Juki.<br />

But I'm not complaining since I'm more than ready for spring. <br />
<br />
I finished two more quilt tops, both using Bonnie Hunter's <a href="http://quiltville.com/pineappleblossom.shtml">Pineapple Blossom</a> pattern. These work up so quickly. <br />
<br />
The first one used up some patriotic fabrics<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUhA47N5Hj_oBaGPhD4NEse1H-HbCQsEb8ZdU___hAwt_5g2dRzWWYuxNm43YZJfnRdCBu-MZbs2nYbjmOuDvhAzrB5chgbHzeV42eWcbZwUhBze_NPKjnVd61Wsk3JM2TOJHSN7MmdydK/s1600/Patriotic+top+022713+(1).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUhA47N5Hj_oBaGPhD4NEse1H-HbCQsEb8ZdU___hAwt_5g2dRzWWYuxNm43YZJfnRdCBu-MZbs2nYbjmOuDvhAzrB5chgbHzeV42eWcbZwUhBze_NPKjnVd61Wsk3JM2TOJHSN7MmdydK/s320/Patriotic+top+022713+(1).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The second one used some African looking fabrics I've had forever.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaV1mqtTcplpylFUJUO2wHatZlLrgnF_jSRI7viMLU-_PO2e03O9HY9d6FnSbZR6VKAF7lQ9OuFiu5_ktYgxXQ4xu-hDLmALvLzk1mAi4wWxnDIZq5JrcXE3PTpVqK5PP7Ulq9aXOGbRnX/s1600/African+Pineapple.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaV1mqtTcplpylFUJUO2wHatZlLrgnF_jSRI7viMLU-_PO2e03O9HY9d6FnSbZR6VKAF7lQ9OuFiu5_ktYgxXQ4xu-hDLmALvLzk1mAi4wWxnDIZq5JrcXE3PTpVqK5PP7Ulq9aXOGbRnX/s320/African+Pineapple.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

And I'm still not sure I'm ready to return to regular or semi-regular blogging. But I thought I'd take a few minutes to check in and assure some who have missed me (thank you) that I am alive and still quilting, albeit at a slower pace.<br />
<br />
I ended 2012 by finishing one more of my long standing UFO's....my version of Dear Jane. Since I was doing the machine quilting during the last few days of the presidential campaign, I decided to call my quilt "America's Choice 2012". My quilt is set together far differently than the original. I based it on a version I saw on the internet several years ago and it was a challenge to figure out the spacing. Thanks to my friend<a href="http://cadouri-din-inima.blogspot.com/"> Geta</a> for her help doing this. <br />
<br />
Here's my quilt<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
We traveled to Des Moines in October to attend the AQS International Show. It was indeed an honor to have one of my quilts hanging in the show for the second year in a row. Here is my Dutch Trade.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTBfJGDDDFQxFQNARtGXDS0Nnq_2XH0zxl-CpZJsUb7pLGxUETGk-0T14YGfbGz9QyxcQlwxGFhlBldLwiG_VzzTwutWd3wePbJB2F0o_-2v7zCKvQ0tpIzE1A9eEI4pJnc9GPNE8i-VvT/s1600/AQS+DM+2012+(2).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTBfJGDDDFQxFQNARtGXDS0Nnq_2XH0zxl-CpZJsUb7pLGxUETGk-0T14YGfbGz9QyxcQlwxGFhlBldLwiG_VzzTwutWd3wePbJB2F0o_-2v7zCKvQ0tpIzE1A9eEI4pJnc9GPNE8i-VvT/s400/AQS+DM+2012+(2).JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I've continued to work on my hexagon quilt, not daily, but frequently. It's grown a bit since I showed it last.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVSBLlbrqMj4FJSEpzcD4RCI2OAFr6wBcU68maKHt9v4toWg5PPivNCAGj7858VjzCZlb_y-A15lnOn7O5GlkEAHi9R8r2PTg91qgRRwF7Ql1A2YiANiK-RwDEzb9nx6e6XaldyD0TSAVb/s1600/12-31-12+(3).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVSBLlbrqMj4FJSEpzcD4RCI2OAFr6wBcU68maKHt9v4toWg5PPivNCAGj7858VjzCZlb_y-A15lnOn7O5GlkEAHi9R8r2PTg91qgRRwF7Ql1A2YiANiK-RwDEzb9nx6e6XaldyD0TSAVb/s400/12-31-12+(3).JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
So the goal this year is at least 12 quilts. January is ending with two tops completed.<br />
<br />
First this strippy quilt based on a photo I found online.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqM1ZOh_yxWuUv5twvtTA4pFWieMWp1m3len09IW4J0P-jOEUsjj_-VFaNCCa8KBdbcGASSJcjixdnapFwASGwniUQdPdJwSPOSA6k6Ck66g6lzvqMR_1161rIqTWZXivjTqyB35XtPRtD/s1600/Strippy+top+011413+(1).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqM1ZOh_yxWuUv5twvtTA4pFWieMWp1m3len09IW4J0P-jOEUsjj_-VFaNCCa8KBdbcGASSJcjixdnapFwASGwniUQdPdJwSPOSA6k6Ck66g6lzvqMR_1161rIqTWZXivjTqyB35XtPRtD/s400/Strippy+top+011413+(1).JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
I added a 1" black border on all four sides after this picture was taken.<br />
<br />
<br />
And the pieced back<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8ZW3juOg-g7N01sJY7TXeqb-z9yg7F7AhSJFPqCwyBGdWQZOqbq4wx2KINA9R_xwYMN3iCamiOQWAJ2RkTDYVoufsm-lb2RL-MDHBT37IQQEeu0QxxVUbbYFhnRbLmr6aEWOXkQbAEe-Q/s320/Strippy+back+011713+(1).JPG" width="320" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You all know this is not my normal color palette. Far too bright for me!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So while I was working outside my normal box I decided to finish a BOM kit I started two or three years ago called My Secret Garden. It's from a book called <a href="http://softexpressions.com/software/books/4FF10390.php">"Secrets From the Garden, Quilts With Floral Charm" by Cincy Lammon</a>. I had previously made four or five of the blocks and then sat it aside because it was just too PINK for me. Time to get it out and finish, except it turned out that some of the fabrics were either missing entirely or cut wrong in the kit. So I had to do some pulling from my stash and also decided to substitue a Sunbonnet Sue applique block for one of the pieced blocks in the original. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That catches us up. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We've experiencing very strange weather here in SE Kansas. Yesterday morning it was 70º when I got up with a tornado watch in effect, 56º at noon, and snow was predicted as possible last night (but didn't happen). Today it is in the 30's. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Happy quilting. I'll try to do better.</div>

This weekend was our guild's annual quilt show and I was asked if I'd be posting pictures to my blog by someone who had forgotten to bring a camera (or had one that wasn't working?). So for that person and any blog readers who might still be stopping by (can't expect to keep any readers when you don't blog :} ) here is a link to a slideshow of quilts from the Little Balkan's Quilt Show in Pittsburg, KS<br />
<br />
I was delighted to win the Overall Best Quilt award for my Dutch Trade as well as a blue in it's category. My four other entries garnered two more blue ribbons and two second place ribbons.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Dutch Trade also won a blue ribbon and Grand Champion Quilt at our country fair last month. <br />
<br />
<br />
Tomorrow I ship it to Paducah for it's trip to the AQS show in Des Moines next month. <br />
<br />
Hope you enjoy the show:<br />

And the pictures I have to share are barely more than updates to the ones I shared 3 months ago. Sad.<br />
<br />
I've been SLOWLY working on my hexie English paper piecing project. I'm almost ready to add one more large diamond section to this.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1vLo2qP8gAGQDdkmzO_eLsx3C7iLL_5VkOEgqyC1zJTmxhYYnhLZALHmCeEAWibQ4p73IkRF0igci-qXfaxieoP4dpkbi24A8TiJCIY7zNjUJbNuCc-KX5UYdDSRjzzOu8ZW9MXW22VYi/s1600/100_4493.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1vLo2qP8gAGQDdkmzO_eLsx3C7iLL_5VkOEgqyC1zJTmxhYYnhLZALHmCeEAWibQ4p73IkRF0igci-qXfaxieoP4dpkbi24A8TiJCIY7zNjUJbNuCc-KX5UYdDSRjzzOu8ZW9MXW22VYi/s320/100_4493.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I gave in and did something I thought I'd never do. I sent two of my biggest pieced tops out to be long arm quilted. Between my breathing problems and a really bad shoulder I just didn't see myself getting these done myself on a domestic sit down machine. <br />
<br />
So while I still find it hard to shake the feeling I've somehow "cheated" in calling these "my quilts", they are finally out of the UFO stack (and I have the unquilted tops down to THREE..WOW!). <br />
<br />
It's hard to get a good picture when quilts are this big and these were taken before either were bound. Perhaps I'll get a chance to hang them and take better pictures later.<br />
<br />
This stack 'n whack was made in 2009 after a workshop by a fellow quild member. I told you earlier that it was outside my comfort zone colorwise, but Tom loves it so I told him it is his 25th anniversary present. We are calling it "The Big Bang".<br />

I love the Vera Bradly fabric I found in my stash for the border and backing.<br />
<br />
That's it folks...my quilting life has become pretty boring. A fourth Dutch <br />Treat keeps calling my name!<br />

It was wonderful spending time in Arizona with our son and daughter-in-law. Our grandaughter, Kelley Ann, lives in Massachusetts. She and her family flew out for a week's vacation and we finally got to meet our youngest great-grandson, Bryce, who is 15 months old.<br />

Not at all! I've been busy, though probably not as busy as I used to stay. Don't know if I've become lazier or if old age is just setting in, but things do seem to take longer than they used to. When I first started quilting 10 years ago I completed 10-20 quilts a year with ease. I just don't think that is going to happen anymore. <br />
<br />
But I have been piecing and quilting.<br />
<br />
First off I finished the little hexie table mat using the vintage hexies cut out by my grandmother. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk9REewr4HPZpzefDOr3T8ePDWk4MtsCy1-LzOl-iq3zVCwOYKohuOjsmyQmhO4hQzigVqfF82xEdMF34YArYM9RuB0JqnaxVcjLgLx1QEnWz4N5E87CpnViMCWfrGg2lPDvk0Khehz2tN/s1600/Grandma's+Flower+Garden+1211+(4).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk9REewr4HPZpzefDOr3T8ePDWk4MtsCy1-LzOl-iq3zVCwOYKohuOjsmyQmhO4hQzigVqfF82xEdMF34YArYM9RuB0JqnaxVcjLgLx1QEnWz4N5E87CpnViMCWfrGg2lPDvk0Khehz2tN/s320/Grandma's+Flower+Garden+1211+(4).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />Some of these fabrics are really old and also thin and I wouldn't have used some of them if this was going to be a quilt that will be washed and used. But I so wanted to use all these pieces Grandma had cut out. This is the last of this size of hexies and it will be a treasured piece.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQiYMbA7j8EgelvqTAEBa5K_Lwg_F1V0VvgoNMFt2Q3xTiqR4ghTWQfE1G1Nqtm1TdPSGUoviU70J2oJdny1sNJZYygPJVlnVozcLSPXvkSYXwDZfz1Nbw7LA7KASDs2VatzOLTE89P4BS/s1600/Grandma's+Flower+Garden+1211+(2).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQiYMbA7j8EgelvqTAEBa5K_Lwg_F1V0VvgoNMFt2Q3xTiqR4ghTWQfE1G1Nqtm1TdPSGUoviU70J2oJdny1sNJZYygPJVlnVozcLSPXvkSYXwDZfz1Nbw7LA7KASDs2VatzOLTE89P4BS/s320/Grandma's+Flower+Garden+1211+(2).JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Then I made three more T-shirt quilts for our daughter-in-law, using T-shirts that belonged to the brother she lost to cancer in April 2011. <br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Nothing fancy about any of them..just t-shirts all cut the same size and put together without sashing. I used fleece for backing and they are nice and cuddly. Perfect recliner/couch quilts. DIL Deb kept the first one I made in December; she gave the next two to her other brother and her mother. The fourth one was for my son, Jeff. He's a Steeler's fan so I used licensed Steeler's fleece on the back of his. I'm glad to have these done as making t-shirt quilts is not my favorite kind of project.<br />
<br />
Right after Christmas I started piecing a scrap quilt using the keyhole pattern I kept seeing all over the internet. I particularly liked this<a href="http://www.freckledwhimsy.com/2011/04/blocktangles.html"> quilt</a> so I drafted my own pattern and added cornerstones in the sashing. I quilted it a couple weeks ago and it is now added to my finished pile.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidZju3DiYQGV95q2cIAkEmt4CTJAgli4ZrmgQkqhIfRsZ-7iACqI8eqk5FPlWUUD7Nz0RZXnHc7aQoptYjss0VHmEIIjmS0nxaCz2XlwA2Z0baGMU-WxCC20n0R2DUzUB_o9SpyGq5M2Fc/s1600/100_4390.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidZju3DiYQGV95q2cIAkEmt4CTJAgli4ZrmgQkqhIfRsZ-7iACqI8eqk5FPlWUUD7Nz0RZXnHc7aQoptYjss0VHmEIIjmS0nxaCz2XlwA2Z0baGMU-WxCC20n0R2DUzUB_o9SpyGq5M2Fc/s320/100_4390.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It was a fun way to use up lots of different 2 1/2" squares that were already cut and stored in one of my bins. That makes for a super fast quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUh4cf2yIfAfbMb5GRTDJSUUZMGrLWF4_5PEgw1sXAApwApSIR8AVx9yxvWcDbEpGkg-g9Vmi8eEXe15Jwg1bqrMPkhS29eZuwWuXoE98XyLHMnEbqk_DjmGzWs7x7b-cqxY7fIwGJ4X93/s1600/100_4391.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUh4cf2yIfAfbMb5GRTDJSUUZMGrLWF4_5PEgw1sXAApwApSIR8AVx9yxvWcDbEpGkg-g9Vmi8eEXe15Jwg1bqrMPkhS29eZuwWuXoE98XyLHMnEbqk_DjmGzWs7x7b-cqxY7fIwGJ4X93/s320/100_4391.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Because I always like to have a hand project going to work on in the evenings I started a big (as in ultimate size of the quilt) project using small (3/4") hexies. I designed the quilt in EQ5. Here is what I hope to make (pretend it is all scrappy diamonds.<br />

This is what I've done so far <br />
<br />
<br />
Monday I started piecing a sofa quilt for my mother-in-law who will be turning 90 in June. It's ready to be quilted.<br />

We'll be spending time in AZ at our son and DIL's. We'll also get to finally meet our great-grandson, Bryce, who turned 1 last January. <br />

<br />
I'm sure I don't need to point out that since finishing my Dutch Treat #3 quilt last month, I really haven't had much to share in the way of quilting. I've been doing a little bit of piecing, both by hand and by machine on a couple of different projects. Nothing to stir great excitement. Truth be told I'm feeling a bit of burn out. I don't see myself giving up quilting by any means, but I think I may slow down even more for awhile. I have some other projects I'd like to work on. <br />
<br />
I also am feeling like I need a break from blogland. So if you don't see me on here for awhile don't assume the worst. Now that I've announced I'm taking a break I suppose tomorrow something will happen that I just have to blog about. Then again, maybe not. <br />
<br />
I'll still be reading blogs so I can stay in touch with my cyber friends. <br />
<br />
Wishing you all a happy and productive 2012 and I'll see you all later!<br />

Oldest son and his wife from Arizona arrived last Saturday and will stay until next Monday morning. Youngest son and his wife from Iowa were here T-W-T but had to go home Friday morning. Middle son, his wife, youngest daughter and her daughter, all from Missouri, were here for a full day on Thursday (those who work in retail don't get a lot of time off during Christmas). We'll see the Missouri folks again tomorrow when we travel to our other Granddaughter's home tomorrow. But I at least got one day with all three sons together and I am grateful. It had been four years since it last happened.<br />

Tom says it is the best of the three.<br />

I will need help getting a good full on picture. But for now here are a few angle shots<br />

This year is one of the special ones when we'll have the three sons with us, at least for a few days prior to Christmas, if not on Christmas Day (Iowa DIL has to work that day). <br />
<br />
Yesterday I made some Munchy Crunchies, a candy I've been making for about 40 years. The original recipe called for chow mein noodles, but somewhere along the line I started using shoestring potatoes instead and we like them better. The salt in the potatoes is a nice contrast to the sweetness of the chips.<br />
Sorry I forgot to take a picture before putting them in the freezer (away from temptation) but here's one I found on the internet<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKPHTJ5hIv0Z4kdD6uh1hsiAu3sGbd-fVEHv7rapYgPryZlxF5IDf-uuQTu5pz1W0CPwJe9kJQtBCpxhf8I-_lQ4Y87ONRClX9QIQ52-vM0TsXwcjZhBkkTus5ViTqeV2lD7DZMFeTf5c5/s1600/53103.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKPHTJ5hIv0Z4kdD6uh1hsiAu3sGbd-fVEHv7rapYgPryZlxF5IDf-uuQTu5pz1W0CPwJe9kJQtBCpxhf8I-_lQ4Y87ONRClX9QIQ52-vM0TsXwcjZhBkkTus5ViTqeV2lD7DZMFeTf5c5/s1600/53103.jpg" /></a></div><br />

<u><div style="text-align: left;">MUNCHY CRUNCHIES</div></u><div style="text-align: left;"><i></i></div><i><div style="text-align: left;">These have been a particular family favorite for many years.</div><div style="text-align: left;"> </div></i><div style="text-align: left;">6 oz. chocolate chips </div><div style="text-align: left;">6 oz. butterscotch chips </div><div align="JUSTIFY"> 2 (3 oz) cans of chow-mein noodles</div><div align="JUSTIFY">1 C. peanuts (optional)</div><br />

</div><div align="JUSTIFY"><br />
</div>I had a big can of shoestring potatoes so there was some left over after making the candy. I decided to try using them as a substitute (actually in addition to) the potato chips in these long time favorite cookie. I made them today and they turned out great<br />
<br />
<u>POTATO CHIP COOKIES</u><br />
<u> </u><br />
<i>I first made these cookies about 1972 and they became one of our favorites. A great way to use the last broken chips in the bottom of a bag.</i><br />
<br />
1 C. soft butter or margarine <br />
1 tsp. vanilla<br />
1 C. brown sugar <br />
1 C. chopped walnuts (optional)<br />
1 C. sugar <br />
2 C. crushed potato chips<br />
2 eggs, beaten <br />
1 tsp. baking soda (optional) <br />
2 ½ C. sifted flour (or slightly less)<br />
<br />
Combine butter, sugars and egg in large mixing bow. Beat until creamy and smooth. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Roll in balls and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 º for 12-15 minutes. Cookies will appear not done when first removed from oven. Let set a few minutes before moving from sheet to cooling racks. Makes about 6 ½ dozen.<br />
<i></i><br />
<i>Note: Can add butterscotch chips or oatmeal or coconut and less flour. Pecans are good in place of walnuts. <br />

I've shown several of them before, but it's been a couple of years at least, so maybe they will be new to some of you and the rest will have forgotten they've seen them.<br />
<br />
Frosty (aka "Fumity"). This one is an original design. It has glittery pom-poms for snowballs and white paint sponged on the tree fabric.<br />
