I ended 2012 by finishing one more of my long standing UFO's....my version of Dear Jane. Since I was doing the machine quilting during the last few days of the presidential campaign, I decided to call my quilt "America's Choice 2012". My quilt is set together far differently than the original. I based it on a version I saw on the internet several years ago and it was a challenge to figure out the spacing. Thanks to my friend Geta for her help doing this.
Here's my quilt
And a close up
We traveled to Des Moines in October to attend the AQS International Show. It was indeed an honor to have one of my quilts hanging in the show for the second year in a row. Here is my Dutch Trade.
I've continued to work on my hexagon quilt, not daily, but frequently. It's grown a bit since I showed it last.
So the goal this year is at least 12 quilts. January is ending with two tops completed.
First this strippy quilt based on a photo I found online.
I added a 1" black border on all four sides after this picture was taken.
And the pieced back
You all know this is not my normal color palette. Far too bright for me!
So while I was working outside my normal box I decided to finish a BOM kit I started two or three years ago called My Secret Garden. It's from a book called "Secrets From the Garden, Quilts With Floral Charm" by Cincy Lammon. I had previously made four or five of the blocks and then sat it aside because it was just too PINK for me. Time to get it out and finish, except it turned out that some of the fabrics were either missing entirely or cut wrong in the kit. So I had to do some pulling from my stash and also decided to substitue a Sunbonnet Sue applique block for one of the pieced blocks in the original.
That catches us up.
We've experiencing very strange weather here in SE Kansas. Yesterday morning it was 70º when I got up with a tornado watch in effect, 56º at noon, and snow was predicted as possible last night (but didn't happen). Today it is in the 30's.
Happy quilting. I'll try to do better.

Hi Mary, Good to have you back, I had wondered if you were doing ok. You have been busy with your quilting and have lots of goodies in the photos. Until recently I had been rather MIA on my blog too. I nearly deleted it and then had second thoughts. I was pretty wishy-washy about it but my interest has picked up after all. Our weather has been very much like yours.
Hey! Nice to "see" you. :D I really LOVE what you did with your Jane blocks.
Hey Mary, yes, I have been wondering about you. I'm glad to see you are ok and still quilting. I like your Dear Jane version and your strippy quilt. I've thought about not blogging too but I miss it when I don't do it. I hope you continue as I enjoy seeing what you are doing and how you are. Thanks for updating us!
Your Dear Jane is wonderful! I particularly like your Hexi quilt. I can't believe how addictive those little things are. ;o)
Welcome back Mary!
I love your Dear Jane quilt!
Nice to see you are still working on lots of wonderful quilts!
What a great photo of you with your Dutch Trade quilt - an amazing piece!
Glad to hear from you - as always, your quilts are simply gorgeous.

Mary,
Glad to hear from you. I keep checking in to see if you posted and was pleasently suprised today.
Your weather sounds like ours in WV.
Have a good one.

Glad to see you are back! I have been checking on your blog and almost emailed you to find out if all was ok. And no, you do not know me and I don't know you (just in case you were wondering), but I have been following your blog for awhile. I love seeing your "Dear Jane" quilts! You do wonderful work. Welcome Back!
Mary, so glad to see your new blog post. Two treats I one day - my laptop is functional again and you have a new blog post. I hope that this is a sign that you are feeling better. I am on my 3rd quilt for the new year. I have 2 grands (cousins) that are graduating so I did the carpenters star in school colors for their project graduation raffle. Since we will be returning to Calif. this summer to visit the sil's I have completed a rose shadowbox quilt, and am 1/2 finished with the blocks on a churn dash variation. The 3rd is undecided as of yet.
Your quilts are wonderful as always. You are such an inspiration
to me. How wonderful it must feel to again have a quilt in an AQS show, and I love the garden quilt.
Wishing you the best!
