2010 Little Balkan's Quilt Show

I am EXHAUSTED.  I worked as a hostess all day Saturday, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.  That was TOO MUCH.  Wasn't originally planned that way, but I agreed to switch my Sunday hours for Saturday with someone and forgot I was already down to work the second shift on Saturday. So that meant 9 till 2:30. Then when we got there we realized Tom had signed up to work 2:30 to 5:00 But that was before he realized PSU had their first home football game of the season. For him, Gorilla Football  trumps Quilt Show! So I said I'd cover his spot.    Boy, did I collapse when I got home Saturday night.

Yesterday we went to church in the morning, then back to the quilt show and although I wasn't working as hostess, I was pretty much on my feet from about 1:00 until 4:00, then sat and helped sign out quilts as people came to pick them up. So we got home about 5:30 and I collapsed again!

But it was a great show. We had 202 entries or thereabouts.  Wonderful quilts!  I always come home feeling so inspired after I attend a show..ours or some other group.  There is so much talent..so many great ideas.   My "to do" list always expands greatly immediately following a show.  After a few weeks, reality trims it a bit.

I only had nine entries this year.  That's quite a few less than I usually have.  Not sure why I made fewer things this year...could be a retired husband?????  Could be hand quilting my Dutch Treat and working on a second one?????

I was thrilled to receive several ribbons.

The one that made me proudest of all.....

Dutch Treat won 1st place in the Applique, Hand Quilted--Work of One Person category.   On Sunday I learned that it missed being selected Viewer's Choice by one vote.  That is, the one that won got one vote more than I did.  I wonder who  didn't vote for me.....could it be my HUSBAND????  Yep. he told me on Saturday he voted for me every year, but this year he thought he'd vote for another he liked.  I didn't mind because I never dreamed any of my quilts ever had a chance getting Viewer's Choice.  My thoughts about his vote changed a little when I found out just how close I came. LOL.  We don't even have a couch..just a love seat..so I can't make him sleep there.  Maybe the recliner for awhile?

This is the quilt that received Viewer's Choice and I can certainly understand why. It was stunning!  It is called "Elizabeth's Fancy" and was made by Judy McVickers. It also received the 2nd place ribbon in the Applique, Hand Quilted, Work of One Person category.

This stunner received Best of Show. It is called  "Dresden Sunset" and was made by Madeline Woodfin.  The fabrics just sparkled and the quilting was superb.  It was in the Large Wall Quilt category and received the blue ribbon as well.   My "Exploding Star" received second place in that category. I posted a pic of that quilt with it's ribbon on Friday so I won't repeat it again.

Susan Stewart lives here in Pittsburg and she entered two amazing pieces again this year.
This one is called "Oriental Lace"

It won the Superior Threads Master Award for Thread Artistry at the 2008 Quilts: A World of Beauty contest at the Houston International Quilt Festival.  Click on the link to her gallery above and then find this quilt.  At the bottom of the page is another link to a detail photo.  It's simply INCREDIBLE.

She also entered this piece in the show.  The two quilts were in the Special Artist category and received a 1st and 2nd place.

Here's a link to a slide show of many of the quilts. I didn't get pictures of everything and I couldn't remember the names of all of the quilts, even though I've poured over my catalog today and tried to match my photos with the quilts.  I've labeled what I could match up.  There are a few awesome quilts I didn't get pics of and I'm trying to get some from the owners.  If I'm successful I'll edit the slide show later.
For now..enjoy...

Oh, Mary, congrats on all the ribbons and I'm sorry you didn't win best of show. I'm sure Tom feels bad enough so I won't add my bit to that. I bet he won't do it again, though, right, Tom? I guess you'll never hear the end of this one, either... I almost feel sorry for you. I said almost. Anyway, all of your quilts are lovely and I'm glad you won so many ribbons. Thanks for making the slideshow. I feel like I was almost there. You have some very talented ladies in your group. All of the quilts were beautiful. I hope you rest up and have a great week.

Those are some beautiful quilts! I actually found your blog from Living4Quiling (I was looking at the blocks and read it off of the block you had on there). :0) I'm glad I got snoopy and came over to check it out. :0)

Hope you don't mind.
