Arrrgghhhh!

My Dutch Treat has been laying on the living room floor as we continue to look at it and admire it. Hey, I worked a LONG time on this...I'm entitled to admire my diligence.

Then this afternoon I noticed something that made me feel like pulling my hair out.

Did any of you notice?

Because some of the center blocks are clearly directional, I so carefully planned my border since it would hang in one direction only.

The leaves in the bottom point out from the center, towards each side.....

They went around the corners and continue UP each side towards the top....

(Yeah...that's my toe)

And then they were supposed to round the top corners and point IN towards the center.....

But this is what I noticed the this afternoon......

The birds are flying correctly..TOWARDS the middle. But the leaves on the right side were appliqued in the wrong direction.

Can you hear the gnashing of teeth going on here?

You of course know that I will have to remove the appliqued leaves and take out all of the quilting in that section of border, re-applique and re-quilt. If I don't it will drive me nuts!

Or should I say this is my "quirky" quilt?

After 21 months of work, I don't think so...........

I think I have to fix it.

Last night and today I've been working on other applique...leaves actually....on a long set aside Baltimore Album style project.

It may take a day or two before I start....but I will fix it.

Can you feel my pain?
(And before somebody points it out, I know the birds in the bottom border are flying towards the center..unlike the leaves...but it's my quilt and that's the way I wanted it....LOL. They didn't look right the other way).

Please say you are kidding about taking that apart. It is just beautiful the way it is. Unless you are planning to show it (and even then I don't think any one would notice) It is hard to see a whole top at the same time and most brains wouldn't pick the leaves out if you circled them in perm. marker. It looks great, but it away for a few days and then get it back out and see if it still bothers you. cw

OH Mary I feel for you, it is always upsetting when you notice you did something different than how you wanted it. I would never have noticed and doubt others would either. But in the end it is what you are comfortable with and want.

You are going to have to do what makes you feel right but I had to study the border to figure out what you saw that was wrong. I will be watching with interest to see what you do. I would just leave it as is. But sadly, it is not my quilt to make that decision on.

No one would have noticed if you hadn't pointed it out. To be honest I really had to study the photos to pick out the "mistake"! I understand what you are saying though and yes, I would probably redo the leaves if it was my quilt too.

Oh Mary...it's so beautiful, what a shame...but I'm sure your the only one to focus on that, because you know... But I know how I would feel.I would have to redo it..
It's just beautiful.

I know just what you are feeling. I just finished taking apart 72 blocks because I wasn't happy with the effect. I also had to really look at the pictures to find what you were referring to. In the end, it is your quilt and your decision. I know that, if I think it will always bother me to see it later, I will make the correction no matter what it takes. Your quilt is a work of art!

Mary I feel for you. Your quilt is very beautiful, but if you feel you have to change it, you must do so.

Mary I think you are the only one that would notice...I had a hard time figuring out what you were talking about....but if you think it will drive you nutzzzzz but the hassle is more than looking at the leaves going the wrong way....

Kudos for wanting to fix your quilt so that it is how YOU want it. Done is NOT always better. I doubt I would have noticed something like this on someone else's quilt but I sure would on my own. Hey, what's this other Baltimore project????

I have a solution. Make a new one and send this to me. ;)

Seriously, I feel your pain. I would have to fix it too but I honestly didn't notice it. The quilt is stunning either way.

I would seriously just leave it as it is. If it took you this long to see it - and you lived this quilt for so long--no one else will notice. I wouldn't have if you hadn't pointed it out. I was just thinking how beautiful it was and is.
