Samoan Sunshine

Friends are one of life's great blessings. Tuesday, when I was mourning the loss of a friend, a package arrived from a new friend with fabric so bright and sunny I had to smile. And I knew the timing was no coincidence. I set to work immediately, making blocks, with no pattern or specific idea in mind, just the comfort of working with such cheerful fabric. It was sort of like a vitamin shot for a quilter!

And this is what I ended up with. Thank you again Barb for helping me through this week.

Usually I wait to take pictures until after I've laundered a quilt as the quilting shows up so much better. But I haven't had a chance to do that yet and the weekend is going to get busy. I quilted some free motion flowers in the plain triangle areas.

And I tried a flange beside the binding for the first time. I think I should have made it even narrower, but all in all, I'm happy with my first attempt.

Now I'm off to lunch with another friend, and then I'll be watching the clock until my youngest and his wife arrive.

Wow Mary, that is just beautiful! I like your flange too, I've never done one before and since I do put the binding on with the machine, I will have to try that. It really addes to the whole effect of your quilt.
