Joe Cool

Sherry commented on the little wallhanging I posted yesterday and asked for a pattern source. Since her account is set to "no reply" I have to answer her here. That's okay as maybe some more of you are wondering the same thing.

The pattern was called "Joe Cool in 1959" and I purchased it from Close Encounterpanes. Chris Gilman, the designer, also has the button I mentioned for sale.

Hope more of you will have fun making this pattern for someone you know. And be sure and check out the policeman version.

Birthday Follow-up

I forgot to mention something very important about Tom when I posted on his birthday. He's a quilter too! He's made one quilt and he has a small stash..of fabric and patterns. And he stops at quilt shops even when I'm not along.

Here he is with his first (and only to date) quilt in 2006. He designed it, pieced it, and quilted it all by himself. It's called "The God's of Golf Are Watching Every Shot...and They Are Hungry Today". You really need to read the label which I've posted down below to understand the name and the quilt. He won a 2nd place in the Beginner Quilter category at our guild's show and was so proud (rightly so!)

He used coordinating fabric for the back

A double bogey!!!!!!! He says the quilting represents his erratic golf shots.

The label and story

He is also been featured in a wall hanging I made for him the same year. I found the pattern online and knew I had to make it for his Valentine's present. He loves it! I call it "Some Things Change". I used one of his discarded flannel shirts.

Close-up . I later found a label pin for sale by the pattern designer that now resides on the quilt. It says "I Do All My Own Nude Shots".

Tom showing why it's easily recognizable as him. (It's hanging at our local quilt show. That's also my "All Tangled Up" reindeer wall hanging to the right , and my "Amelia's Bouquet" just below it).

And the label on the back...........some things change!!!!!!!!!! (and I'm so glad he hasn't made a quilt demonstrating how I've changed..hope he never does!!!!!!!!!!)

Happy Birthday Tom, Happy Easter and a Couple of Treats

Today my sweetie has a birthday! Still young at heart even if the body tries to say otherwise sometimes. I'll make one of his favorite dishes tomorrow. He'll spend today patiently ferrying me on errands and over to Joplin. He received his present last week..another quilt. He can claim ownership of quite a few now and that seems to make him happy.

Wishing you many, many more, Tom!

And I hope everyone a wonderful Easter surrounded by family and friends and full of meaning. We'll spend the day at church with a potluck following the morning service. Have to make a grocery run soon and then get busy cooking and baking.

Easter Finery

I was reading Freda's blog this morning and learned about a discussion of Easter dresses, hats, and purses going on at Eileen's Attic. What fun memories...looking at every one's pictures brings a smile to my face.

Here's a picture of me with my little cousin Connie. Looks like I could have used a smile that day! You can tell it's central Iowa with the plush coat over my Easter dress.

This one was 1970 or so. My aunt Barbara with her four children and me with my three sons. Sorry about the poor picture quality.

Consider posting your Easter memories and linking to them on Eileen's blog.

A Sunny Day

Not the weather...that is overcast, cold and windy. Nevertheless I'm enjoying sunshine with the receipt of this little siggy block from Sunna in Iceland! What a lot of work she has put into it. I love it!
