LBQG 2009 BOM

I finished the remaining blocks for our guild's 2009 BOM today. Now I don't have to worry about having my block done each month. I can hang them in the closet and grab the one I need for each meeting.

These are September and October blocks

And November and December blocks.

Now I need to go ahead and finish making all of them for my set to keep.

I Got Mail!

Friday's mail brought me two more siggy blocks. One from Edda in Iceland........

And another from Hanneke in The Netherlands.

Aren't they both wonderful? It's so much fun receiving these envelopes from all over. The brightly colored stamps on each are a bonus to someone who used to collect stamps. I think I'll create a scrapbook to keep all of the letters and envelopes.

Friday I also worked on more of the monthly blocks for our guild's BOM. They probably won't end up being in a quilt together since each month we have a block lotto and one or two persons win the blocks or donate them to our community quilt projects. So they don't need to be from the same fabrics (except for the light brown background fabric that we all are using). But I was on a roll and decided to go ahead and get several of the months done ahead while I had these fabrics out. Here's what I got done. I'll still need to make four more blocks for the guild lotto and of course each of them a second time for my own quilt. They are all simple blocks and fun to make.

Friday night I finished this Dutch Treat block called "Tree of Life". It's one of the ones I had been dreading, but actually it wasn't all that hard..just took a little time.

And last night I made this one called "Marina".

49 more of these babies to go.

When I posted the pics of my grandmother's afghan a couple of days ago it reminded Sunna of some of the afghans she has from relatives and even some she made herself. She posted some pretty pics of them on her blog, SunnyQuilts. Stop over and admire them. It's worth the trip!

I'm Still Here

I haven't posted in a few days and last night I received an email from an online friend checking to be sure I was okay. And I'm happy to report I'm fine...just didn't have a lot to write about. Yesterday a quilting buddy took me to lunch as a birthday gift. Our temps have fallen again and the daffodils in my yard are drooping. The weatherman promises we'll be back in the 70º's in a few days and I am more than ready.

In the meantime...made another Dutch Treat block. This one is called "Order". I don't know where some of these names come from???????

Yesterday I made the BOM for our guild's block lotto. Out meeting is next Monday and this is called "Dutchman's Pinwheel".

And this is my block to keep.

I think I've mentioned that my grandmother, who raised me, quilted a bit. But what she did mostly was crochet. I swear she had a crochet hook in her hand five minutes after waking and five minutes before going to sleep (and sometimes she fell asleep while crocheting). She made hundreds, if not thousands of items and I'm blessed to have a few. I think I know where I inherited my love of scrap quilts and using up every last bit of fabric. This crocheted afghan of Grandma's demonstrates that principle with yarn. Isn't it colorful? I think the pattern would be a great art quilt done in fabric.

I miss her so much.

A Little Of This and a Little Of That

Progress on several fronts..........

Amy, at Block by Block Quilt Shop in Carthage, MO is offering a BOM based on the quilt called My Secret Garden by Cindy Lammon in her book, Gathered From The Garden. Today I made January's blocks...two Tulips in the Garden.


Then I made February's block for our guild's 2009 BOM. We are using patterns from the Florida Cabin Fever Quilt Guild's website ..their 2007 BOM. We are all using the same background fabric, so whoever wins the blocks will have some continuity when they put them together in a quilt. The light fabric is the common fabric.


This month's block was a rail fence. Here's mine for the block lotto.

Next I decided that I would use a lighter background and make blocks to keep for myself. The quilt is called Old Time Sampler. If you haven't noticed I like sampler quilts, especially those with traditional blocks.

And then I jumped ahead and made April's 16 Patch Star.

Wonder what mischief I can get into tomorrow.
